Real Pet Behavior was founded by Tara Houser in order to help people live happier lives with their pets. Tara graduated from North Carolina State University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management. She began her career by training dogs. After a few short months she desired to learn as much as she could about canine behavior. Ultimately, she found that by learning about other species her skills in dog training became more refined. As time passed, she worked with multiple species: dogs, cats, horses, birds, guinea pigs, chickens, and more.Tara has attended numerous training courses and workshops by professional trainers and veterinary behaviorists. She is a Pat Miller Level 2 Certified Trainer, Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, and Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer. She has participated in obedience training, agility, flyball, and nose work with her own dogs and helped coach others. She teaches basic and advanced manners classes, does one on one consults, and is the creator of Pooch Potato to 5k, a twelve week training program for people and their pooches to complete their first 5k together. Tara believes that the when unwanted behavior occurs, the behavioral well-being of any pet is best served through cooperation between the pet’s family, the pet’s veterinarian, the behaviorist, and in some cases a local trainer.
